Wine, Holy Week, and Why How We Live Matters More Than What We Own

by Chris Yurko

On paper, real estate is about square footage, interest rates, and sold prices. In real life, it’s about something much deeper: how we live, what we value, and who we share it with. As a Catholic, a husband, a father, and yes, someone who enjoys a good glass of wine, I think about that a lot—especially during Holy Week.

Holy Week, home, and what really matters

Holy Week is a time of reflection: on sacrifice, on love, and on what truly lasts. It’s a reminder that our lives are bigger than our schedules and our spreadsheets. For me, that perspective shapes how I see my work.

A home is where you teach your kids what matters, where you gather around a table, where you weather the highs and lows of life together. It’s also one of the most important financial decisions you’ll ever make—but it should never only be about the money. It should be about building a life that reflects your values.

A glass of wine and the pace of life

One of my favorite simple rituals is opening a bottle of wine at the end of a long day—nothing fancy required—and slowing down enough to really be present. It’s a small reminder to:

  • Put the phone down.

  • Look my family in the eye.

  • Be grateful for the roof over our heads and the people under it.

That same mindset carries into how I advise clients. I don’t want you to feel rushed, pressured, or talked into something that doesn’t fit. I want you to have the time, space, and information to make a decision you’ll still feel good about years from now.

Principles I bring into every transaction

My faith is personal, not a marketing slogan. But it does shape how I work. In every transaction, I try to live out a few simple principles:

  • Honesty over hype. I’ll tell you what I really think, even if it’s not the easiest or most convenient answer.

  • Service over ego. Your goals come first, not my next commission check or social media post.

  • Stewardship over shortcuts. Whether you’re buying your first home or selling a million‑dollar property, I take seriously the responsibility of helping you steward your resources well.

You never have to share my beliefs for me to be in your corner. My commitment is to treat you, your time, and your finances with respect - because that’s what I believe every person deserves.

What this means if we work together

If we work together, I want you to feel two things:

  • That you’re getting sharp, data‑driven advice on the market.

  • That you’re working with someone who sees you as more than a transaction.

Yes, we’ll talk about comps, inspection reports, and contract terms. But we’ll also talk about how you actually want to live: the mornings, the dinners, the wine on the back deck, the space you want for your family and your future.

If that sounds like the kind of partnership you’re looking for in a real estate advisor, I’d be honored to sit down with you—over coffee or a glass of wine—and talk about what home should look like for you in this next season.
